While learning Mandarin I struggled during a convention and doodled this in the margins of my notes. Soon after I was on a plane from YUL to YYC to visit my ailing mom. I brought a 5x7 sketchbook, during the 4 hour trip there I had scratched this with my .1 pen. When I got up to leave, a young man approached me and told me he loved what I had done. There are hints of Watterson all over this piece. The book the lad is reading is Faith McNulty's, Arty the Smarty - a favourite read of mine when I was a kid, I remember buying it for my sister on my first drive after finally getting my driver's license. I identify with this lad, his curiosity creates joy of discovery not fear.
