Cephalopod in a Glass

Project type

Illustration

Date

August 21, 2017

Location

Montreal

This was one of my "pen to paper" drawings, it had one false start. I intended to draw an Octopus upside down in a glass and but it was not working, I knew it was wrong in the first few lines. I began again and after liking the composition, I experimented with the curves - I squared them all off and realized that is what something that seems mostly liquid would look like under the force of terrestrial gravity. The thinking behind this one is essentially explained in the inking: In order to find security this cephalopod found safety in a rigid cramped space - some security is better than none. Rarely does a secure space arrive as luxury.
