I originally intended this to be a test drawing for the real one. I was hoping to practice drawing fur and compound eyes in order to draw a bee. As I mentioned in other descriptions, I put my pen on the paper and just drew what was in my mind. I also had not drawn black characters before and was surprised at the challenge of drawing darker skin tones. However the character is inspired from our dear friend Georgina Jackson - who had a stage name in the 1940-1950's - Shareen Foster. She was bold, vivacious and didn't suffer fools gladly. She had stories from Montréal's heyday that would have been prime beef for the tabloids of today let alone back then (or as the younger ones say, she had all the tea), but I digress. She told me a story about when she was a little girl growing up in 'Scotia'. She had earned herself a dollar and went to spend it on treats at the grocers. She took her time selecting the treat she was going to buy (she never grew out of this behaviour). The store owner tried to hurry her up and out. She replied, "This is my money and I am going to spend it the way I want when I am ready." The owner got irritated and threw her out. She swore she would get even with him. Sometime before the store owner woke up to milk his cow. Georgina had snuck out her room and went to his cow and milked it dry. She told me, "I milked her straight into my mouth and when my belly was full I milked her right into the ground." The grocer came over that morning ranting to Mrs. Jackson how her Georgina was a terrible child and banned her from the store.
The Bee represents the cow and the stinger is the grocer, while Georgina remains without fear of either.
