On a trip across Canada (YUL - ZQS : planes, boats, cars) with my wife, sister and 2yr. old niece we stopped along some of the most photogenic countryside in the world. This scene stayed in my mind begging for a painting. A good friend and artist, Wenke Turner shared a method of taking an object drawing a progressively simplified series of thumbnail drawings where each thumbnail is based on the previous one. Thereafter one would select the most pleasing composition to work from. Out of 5 thumbnails this was number 4. I continue to use this method.
